Exploring The OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G

When flagship phones feel too much and entry-level phones feel too less, midrange devices are the way to go. Most of the time these devices have the beauty of a flagship - with features that will not make you feel left out of the trend. This is why almost all smartphone manufacturers still release phones in this category.

One of the brands that create the best phones in this category is OnePlus. There are perceptions that this brand is from the West when it is really a Chinese company. Speaking of midrange devices, OnePlus recently released its new device. Let’s explore the new OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G.

Let’s start with the amazing battery – 15 minutes is enough for one day of power. This device has a 4500mAh capacity, equipped with a 65W SUPERVOOC charging system that they usually offer in their flagship devices. For safety purposes, it is TUV Rheinland Certified where users can safely “charge-and-play”. It is equipped with reverse charging – you can use it as a power bank!

Moving to the camera department, this phone has a triple camera setup. The main camera has a 64MP with f/1.79 aperture, equipped with AI features. The other 2 camera sensors are the 8MP ultrawide camera and 2MP for macro shots. One of the camera’s AI features is the Nightscape mode, which automatically highlights the color in low light situations. Another one is the popular Portrait mode, where you can even adjust the background blur and their exclusive Bokeh Flare filter. Aside from photos, videos are better with this device for having automatic color optimization and image stabilization.

It may not have the smoothest scrolling experience available on the market, but the 6.4-inch Fluid AMOLED display still have a 90Hz refresh rate. This is one of the best phones in this price range to stream movies and TV series, as it can also play Full HD+ videos. Apart from these features, the phone has an improved always-on display compared to its predecessor. The user interface on top of the Android 11 is the brand’s Oxygen OS. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5G with an 84.9 screen-to-body ratio. In addition, there is an optical fingerprint sensor under the display.

The OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G is available in 2 shades: the shiny finish of Gray Mirror and the smooth reflection of Bahama Blue. Proud of the phone’s engineering, it is only 7.8mm thin and was able to retain the 3.5mm earphone jack at the bottom of the phone. Given this thin phone design, it has a dual physical sim on top of the MicroSD slot. Obviously from this phone’s name, it has 5G connectivity with the MediaTek Dimensity 900 5G chipset.

This mid-range phone has an estimated price of US$295 or GBP 299, with 128GB of internal memory and 6GB of RAM. Depending on the market, there is also an available 8GB RAM version but will be a bit more expensive. The only obvious downside of this phone is that it comes with Android 11 out of the box. To conclude, this phone may not be the best phone in the market but the reasonable price gives the best value for money.
