7 Helpful Ways To Fix Black Screen Issue on Windows Computer 2022

One of the Windows PC users' common problems is Black Screen Problem. Although the term "black screen" refers to many issues, some of which have nothing to do with display or monitor.

This error often appears on a computer that uses high-end graphics cards, but some users experience it on laptops. It is usually caused by a corrupted driver or an incorrect video card configuration.

However, no matter what is causing your computer's black screen issue, there are several ways to fix it. And all you have to do is follow the below-mentioned methods:

Unplug all external devices.

The black screen issue on Windows 10 could be caused by the external devices you have connected to your system. And it is often the result of a USB flash drive. Therefore, it is recommended that you unplug all external devices and remove additional hardware such as RAM modules, a second hard drive, etc. So, after clearing all those external devices, restart your computer to check if the problem is solved.

Suppose you have multiple devices connected to your system; try disconnecting them one by one and restart your PC. If you are using integrated graphics, try removing the graphics card and using the onboard graphics instead. Unplugging all external devices and using onboard graphics will help you determine whether the problem is caused by a faulty external device or a faulty graphics card.

Reboot your computer

Sometimes, the black screen issue happens because there are some errors in the boot process on your computer. Then, you can reboot your computer to solve the problem. And if you have unsaved work, make sure to save it before continuing this process.

After, you can follow the steps below to reboot your computer:

  • Press and hold down the "Power" button until your computer turns off completely.
  • Disconnect the power cord and wait for about 30 seconds before reconnecting it again.
  • Turn on your computer and see if the black screen issue has been resolved.

Boot in Safe Mode.

You can also try to boot in Safe Mode. Only the essential core processes and services are loaded in this mode, which essentially eliminates the chances of a third-party app or service.

To do this, here are some steps:

  • Restart your computer.
  • Click the F8 key continuously until you see the Advanced Boot Options screen.
  • Select Safe Mode and press Enter.
  • If Windows can start in Safe Mode, you can troubleshoot specific issues.
  • If the problem persists, try to perform a system restore to an earlier date when your computer was working fine. Another option is to run a System File Checker (SFC) scan on your PC and see if it helps you.

Run a System Scan

Another reason for a black screen is malware apps running on your PC. To fix this issue, you can try running a full system scan.

You can also run a system scan with a program like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware or Kaspersky Internet Security, which will help identify any potential problems with your system files.

Some other methods may help if none of these work: Try running System Restore to see if it fixes anything. This can be done by going into Control Panel > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore and then clicking "Restore my computer to an earlier time" option in the dialog box that comes up after choosing this option. Make sure not to select "Choose another."

Check for Malware and Viruses.

The biggest reason and a symptom of a virus-infected computer is a black screen. It can either be a hardware failure or a system crash.

Therefore, you should consider scanning your computer for malware and viruses.

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys simultaneously on your keyboard to open Windows Task Manager.

Then, press on the Processes tab and check for any process using all of your computer's CPU power and memory.

If you find any process that uses high resources, then Google it to see if malware or virus is causing this problem.

If it was, install antivirus software on your computer and perform a full system scan. Once the scan completes, all the threats will automatically be removed from your computer.

Uninstall third-party programs.

Third-party applications can also easily cause problems with your computer. Sometimes they even result in a blue screen of death (BSOD) or a black screen. The best solution is to uninstall those apps.

Here is how it is done:

  • Open the task manager by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete buttons at once and clicking on Task Manager. Now, right-click on the application you want to uninstall and click on End Task.
  • After, go to Control Panel and click on Uninstall a program under Programs.
  • Choose the program you want to uninstall, then click Uninstall.

If nothing works, perform a clean install of the Windows Operating System. If you face the Windows computer black screen issue, it is highly recommended to try all the above methods before thoroughly considering a clean install.

If none of those work and you are stuck, it's time to perform a clean install of the Windows Operating System.
